I only recently came across Save The Cat (Writes A Novel), but very quickly found it to throw a whole new light on writing that I'd always purposely avoided (for no good reason).
I know what you mean! In a talk from 2017, one of the last slides said something like 'knowing these patterns isn't cheating' - stories feel so human and intuitive, it almost feels wrong to learn tools to make storytelling easier.
Once you're comfortable with Save The Cat, I highly recommend Matt Bird's Secrets of Story. Part of the power of Save The Cat is that it's simple, Bird's book adds layers of complexity and nuance which make things less simple, but they're all powerful extra tips for writing. And then, once you've got it all... Forget them and let your subconscious guide you!
