I'm curious whether you'll be able to publish the Ace of Spades cat-on-a-motorcycle video? Seems like a lot of people upload copyrighted music with new videos so I'm not really sure how YT stands on the law of that...

One of my Mr Snaffleburger videos isn't available in Denmark due to a 10ish second clip of a track by Chicane playing in the background. Apparently Chicane block people using their music in things, but only in Denmark, which is odd. I guess it depend on the record label's attitude to licensing.

From what I recall, when you've used licensed music, typically the music creator gets some/most/all of any revenue that might be generated from advertising on that video.

I had no idea you had a Substack until today! :)

So, it's possible you could upload a video conversion of the Ace of Spades and it would stay up? I'd love to be able to link folks to it...

It might work, yep.

I joined on here about six months ago, starting with importing my old mailing list. Some of those old email addresses are nearly 20 years old, so I suspect 75% of them might not be checked anymore (even after I'd cleaned out the emails from expired domains), but there are a couple of hundred regular readers here. It's nice to be creating and sharing things regularly again.

BTW, the conversion process is a bit laborious when going for a high quality result, but I've noted you'd like it online again 💜

I think it was this episode that encouraged me to try messing about with Macromedia Flash (as it was), and making a couple of very basic 'interactive' things. I remember making a "Dress Up Mittens" game (I use the term very loosely) and emailing it to you. It was - like all my attempts with animations - pretty basic stuff, but Flash just seemed a hugely accessible way to create something entertaining... even if I was only entertaining myself :)

Hey Hobbes! Lovely to see you here ❤️ Yes, Flash truly was an incredible tool for creativity. No wonder it needed to be killed. Can't have people just making things and sharing them, whatever next?
